The Civic Initiative Against Environmental Crime (CIAEC) is an autonomous non-profit information and legal service organization founded in 2018.
The mission of the CIAEC is to create new and effective practices of civic participation in the preservation of nature and a favorable human environment.
CIAEC protects the environmental rights of citizens, supports public environmental initiatives, counteracts environmental abuse and crime, and develops civic education and non-governmental oversight.

What do we work on?
Clear Horizon is a public non-profit IT project for responding to landscape fires, which operates on the basis of geoinformation systems and allows you to receive information about fires and their areas of origin, as well as send petitions to control authorities on such facts.
The project aims to support various forms of civic engagement in the field of fire fighting: from direct action (fire-fighting volunteering) to legal action.
The project's priorities are to protect valuable natural areas from fire, as well as to protect residents of settlements from smoke caused by fires in natural and agricultural areas.
The School of Environmental Protection is a project of a coalition of environmental organizations that aims to support people defending their rights to a healthy environment. The project helps people to master effective civic technologies based on expert knowledge and practical experience.
The project maintains the website http://envirights.ru/, where news about civic campaigns are published, practical recommendations for action are given, stories about the successful experience of public environmental campaigns are published. Also, within the framework of the project, theme-based webinars are held with well-known expert practitioners, annual seminars and conferences for eco-activists are held.
Supporting grassroots environmental activism is one of the basic directions of CIAEC's activities, aimed at direct support of initiative groups and civil activists who independently protect the environment and environmental rights. Legal, informational and consulting assistance is provided to activists and groups.
An important feature of the project is the development of horizontal ties between activists from different regions, the organization of a direct exchange of experience between groups.
The fight against illegal logging in the forests of the Caucasus is a campaign aimed at identifying and responding to violations in the field of forest management in the Caucasian regions of Russia.
The Caucasus is one of the world's centers of biodiversity, where one of the last areas of virgin forests on the European continent has been preserved. Criminal and corrupt practices of timber extraction cause great damage to the Caucasian forests, endanger the existence of entire ecosystems, undermine the foundations of sustainable development of regions, and exacerbate the negative effects of global climate change.
Using modern geoinformation technologies and monitoring tools, achieving transparency in relations between government bodies and loggers, CIAEC intends to significantly reduce the number of illegal logging and protect mountain areas from environmental degradation.
